  • May 2024: Staff spotlight: Abi Nightingale – Head of Product Marketing

Staff spotlight: Abi Nightingale – Head of Product Marketing

May 2024

Here at Widgit, we’re passionate about the transformative power of symbols in helping individuals of all abilities understand, and be understood. But what’s it like to work for Widgit, and who are the people behind the symbols bringing our stories to life?

In the first of a new series sharing a ‘window into Widgit’, we had the pleasure of talking to our Head of Product Marketing Abi Nightingale. From the highlights of her role so far to her favourite Widgit Symbol, Abi shares what makes her role at Widgit special, and what the future holds for symbolised communication.

Abi

What drew you to work for Widgit?

I was drawn to Widgit because of its mission and core values. I wanted to be part of a company that is truly making a real difference. Plus, the passion everyone here has for their work is so inspiring. It's like joining a team of superheroes, but instead of capes, we have symbols!

Tell us about your role as Head of Product Marketing

In a nutshell, my role is about delivering multi-channel marketing strategies across our portfolio, both in the UK and internationally, to support Widgit’s core objectives. Day-to-day this could involve market analysis and research, product positioning and messaging, go-to-market strategies, cross-functional collaboration, sales enablement, customer insights and metric analysis.

What’s been the highlight of your journey so far?

I had an amazing experience celebrating the birthday of a one-eyed camel at Woburn Safari Park, our first Symbol-Friendly zoo. It was definitely not your typical day at the office! It was great to see our symbols in action and how much fun the children from Windmill School had interacting with the camels.

What is it that makes Widgit special?

Widgit is special because it’s driven by heart and purpose. We’re a team of passionate people who genuinely care about making communication accessible for everyone.

What do you think the future holds for symbolised communications?

The future of symbolised communications is exciting. With growing awareness of the need for inclusive communication, we will continue to see symbols used more widely across various settings and public spaces; Widgit is already leading the way with our fast-growing symbol-friendly network!

What’s your favourite Widgit Symbol, and why?

My favourite Widgit Symbol is the galaxy. It reminds me of the glow-in-the-dark stars and galaxy stickers that I stuck all over my wall as a kid. I even tried to persuade my daughter to embrace the cosmic vibe, but she was adamant about decorating her walls with dinosaur stickers instead!
