When it comes to making the trip into cities like Nottingham, travelling by tram continues to prove a popular mode of transport. Buying a ticket, hopping on and hopping off at your designated stop may seem straightforward for some but the journey for those with SLCN may look and feel quite different...

As part of our mission to help organisations across the UK become symbol-friendly, we’ve proudly partnered with Nottingham Express Transit (NET) to help make modern-day transport a less daunting and more inclusive experience. From children travelling with parents and carers for a family day out, to the everyday journey for city commuters, we believe all individuals of all ages should never feel left behind.

By implementing dedicated QR codes on ticket machine screens, across their 37 trams and within their King Street travel centre, NET passengers now have easy access to symbols-guided support.

A grand day out with Rosehill students

Boarding our ‘Widgited’ Nottingham trams for the very first time, we were delighted to join students from Rosehill School as they ventured into the city for some festive fun. Purchasing their tickets at the Clifton South stop, students and teachers rode the tram to the Old Market Square – with Widgit symbols to help guide them. From accessing the route via the QR code on screen, to reading through the physical symbolised guide, students were able to enjoy their day without the anxiety or stress often associated with using public transport.
