Common Questions
What is the difference between SymWriter 2 and Widgit Online?
Solution
Widgit Online(previously called SymWriter Online) can used to write symbol documents, grids and activities when working in a web browser. It is a subscription based product. It does not install any software and can be used in all the common browsers. For example: Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome and Safari (on the Mac or Windows). You have access to your writing anywhere where you have an internet connection. The subscription includes all the symbol updates.
SymWriter 2 is installed on a Windows PC and is a one-off purchase. SymWriter 2 can be used to create symbol-supported documents like SymWriter Online and has the addition of assisted writing with grids and switch support. These grids can have a mixture of text and symbols, great for emergent writers.
Working Together
The two products are designed to work together. Here are two examples:
- A student writing in SymWriter 2 can save a document to Widgit Online. This document can then be published by Widgit Online and the link to the published document can be emailed to friends and family, who do not need a Widgit Online account, or SymWriter 2 to view it. In this way, work done using the support of SymWriter 2 can be seen anywhere in the world in a web browser.
- A teacher working at a school who uses SymWriter 2 to support students' writing and create supported information can back up document to Widgit Online to access at home.
